about

Happy Solstice! It's time for another cello carol!

This year's tune is The Sussex Carol, a traditional carol first published in 17th-century Ireland. The tune was "collected" (discovered and written down) in 1904 by Dr. Ralph Vaughan Williams, who heard it being sung by a Mrs. Harriet Verrall of Monk's Gate, Horsham, Sussex, England (hence the "Sussex Carol"). The tune was considered "traditional" when Williams collected it, so it's probably much older than 120 years.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, filled with warmth and music and joy!
